He finished runner-up to James Cecil Parke in the Men's Singles final of the Australasian Championships, the future Australian Open, in 1912. Beamish also partnered Charles Dixon to win the bronze medal in the indoor doubles event at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. He was runner up in one of tennis early majors, the World Covered Court Championship, in 1921. He also competed at the 1920 Summer Olympics. He was also twice a semifinalist at Wimbledon in 1912 and 1914. Beamish was married to Wimbledon singles semi finalist Winifred Beamish.
