James Scully is an American poet. Died 12/11/20.
James Patrick Scully was an Irish Corporal that served the United Kingdom in the Second World War. He was originally from Crumlin, a suburb in Dublin and went on to serve in the Pioneer Corps. For his service he was awarded the George Cross for the valour he displayed on the night of 12–13 March 1941 in BirkenheadMerseyside, after rescuing people from a bomb damaged building during the Blitz. He was born the son of Thomas and Bridget Scully and he had two brothers and five sisters. After a basic education in Dublin, he decided to seek work in England, and moved to London at the age of 16 in 1925. He gained employment as a labourer and worked all over London prior to the outbreak of the Second World War.
